Sellers might find it convenient to paint over water damage rather than fixing the problem, but such short-term solutions can often work against them when buyers notice serious issues. Buyers begin to wonder if there may be other problems with the house that sellers could possibly be trying to cover, which is why they could decide against making an offer. Buyers are generally prepared to negotiate around minor issues but an approach such as this can arouse a great deal of skepticism.
